New Freshman AdmissionsProcess

1. Applyonline.

2. Pay the $25non-refundable application fee online or enter an acceptable fee waiver code as yousubmit your application.

We accept application fee waiver codesfrom College Board, ACT, and NACAC. Please contact the Office of Admissions andRecruitmentfor assistance on how to obtain the application fee waiver code at229-500-4358 or email us at admissions@asurams.edu.

3. Submit Official high school transcript to the Officeof Admissions

Youcan do this by logging into your account at www.gafutures.orgor www.parchment.com or you can contactyour high school counselorand request they send a copy of your officialtranscript. The Required High School Curriculum is used to calculate your highschool GPA, soit may appear lower than you originally anticipated because wedo not include courses like weight lifting, health, art, drama, etc.

Ifyou have dual-enrollment credits from institutions other than Albany StateUniversity, please request the official transcripts fromwww.studentclearinghouse.org,or www.parchment.com.

4.Sendus official copies of your SAT/ACT scores from the testing agency. (SAT code:5004 / ACT code: 0782)

5. Check your admission status online.

AdmissionRequirements

Freshman applying for Spring, Summer and Fall 2022 are required to submit official SAT and/or ACT test scores to be considered for the Bachelor degree programs and must have a high school GPA of at least a 2.0.

Freshman who do not submit SAT and/or ACT test scores can be admitted into our access pathway programs.

Applicants are required to submit their official high school transcript and complete an application to receive an admissions decision.

The University System of Georgia has authorized this change. Prospective freshman must meet all other admission requirements, including satisfactory completion of the required high school curriculum and all other requested documentation. ASU admission counselors remain available to assist applicants and prospective students via phone 229-500-4358 and emailadmissions@asurams.edu.

TheOffice of Admissions considers the following when evaluating students foradmission to Albany State University.

Prospectivefirst-year students must meet one of the following admission criteria:

HighSchool GPA & Required High School Curriculum

  • Bachelors program with a 2.0+unweighted GPA with Evidence Writing 480 & Math 440 SAT or
  • Bachelors program with a 2.0+unweighted GPA with English or Reading 17 & Math 17 or
  • Freshman with a highschool GPA above 2.0 without ACT or SAT test scores can be admittedinto our Access to Pathway Program
    • If you choose notto take one of the tests, you will be automatically placed in Math and Englishlearning support courses.

Requirements includesatisfactory completion of the Required High School Curriculum and all otherrequested documentation.

YourHigh School GPA is calculated by the Office of Admissions using the 17 RequiredHigh School Curriculum courses listed at the bottom of this page. Additionalinformation can be found at Staying on Course. Grades will be used as listed on yourofficial high school transcript; Albany State University does not add or removeweight for accelerated courses.

Requirementsinclude satisfactory completion of the Required High School Curriculum and allother requested documentation.

For Access Pathway to Certificate,Associates and/or Bachelors Degree Requirements

Minimum SAT/ACT scores and Freshmen Index are notrequired for those applying to the Associate Pathway at Albany StateUniversity. Applicants are screened for Learning Support placement bytaking the NEXT GEN ACCUPLACER Examas part of the admission process. A minimum 2.0 High School GPA isrequired.

For Transfer Students and Students Seeking aSecond Degree

1. Submitofficial transcripts from all previously attended colleges, regardless of thelength of attendance or amount of credits earned, sendan official transcriptto ASUs Office of Admissions.

2. Ifyou have earned fewer than 30 transferable college credit hours, thenstudent(s) must meet freshman requirements.

3. Alltransfer students must meet minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.0.

For Readmit Students (Student who havepreviously attended Albany State University and/or Darton State College)

1. Submitofficial transcripts from all previously attended colleges, regardless of thelength of attendance or amount of credits earned, sendan official transcriptto ASUs Office of Admissions.

2. AllReadmit students must meet minimum cumulative grade point average of a 2.0.

3. Additionalinformation may be required based on previous enrollment status at ASU. Areadmit Counselor will contact the student ifadditional information isrequired.

For Transient Students

Permission to take courses: Submit a letter of approvalfrom the dean or registrar of the institution where you are a resident listingthe courses you should take while enrolled at Albany State University.

For Dual Enrollment

1. Submitofficial high school transcripts to the Office of Admissions.

2. Aminimum grade point average of 3.0.

3. CombinedCritical Reading/Math SAT score of 970 OR ACT minimum English score of 17, Math17 and a composite score of 20.

For International Students

1. Submityour official academic transcripts from all U.S. high schools orcolleges/universities that you have attended or are attending.

2. Ifyou are not a college transfer student with at least 30 semester hours or 45quarter hours that can be accepted as credit at ASU, requestthat your officialSAT/ACT scores be sent to the Office of Admissions.

3. Submitofficial Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) or International EnglishLanguage Testing System (IELTS) scores.

4. Completeand submit the Certificate of Finances Form to the Office of Admissions.

General Admission Information

Legal Residency

1. To qualify as a legalresident of Georgia, the applicant, if over 24 years of age, must have lived inGeorgia for at least one year prior to the registration date. If the applicantis under 24 years of age, their parent(s) or legal guardian must haveestablished legal residence in Georgia for at least one year (12 months) preceding thefirst day of class.

2. Please note that thisbrief explanation of the residency regulation does not encompass all the ruleson residency. If the applicant is in doubt about their legal residencestatus, they should consult the general catalog for the "legalresident" rules and regulations of the Board of Regents for the UniversitySystem of Georgia, or contact the ASU Office of the Registrar at (229) 500-4358.
